For every disciplined effort, there is a multiple reward.

When I was a child, I always wanted to be a soldier. When I look back now, I can not find any connection with that dream; but there is always a strange attraction.
What is it, I’ve been wondering for many years. Is it about the power or the guns? When I thought about it for a while, I realized that it was neither the power nor the guns. Then, what is it? Just to find out this factor, I saw the best war movies & documentaries all over again. I read some books which were written on the experiences of the soldiers.

And then I found out, that the factor which unknowingly made an impact on my mind was the self-discipline of the soldiers. When I didn’t know anything, I couldn’t understand any language; I couldn’t decode the meaning, this little thing broke all the barriers & entered my life by making such a huge impact on my mind & that too, unknowingly!

Really, this visibly little thing, had a gigantic meaning. Without discipline we can’t achieve anything in life. It is a great source of inspiration & motivation. It teaches us to sacrifice, to control our emotions, to do our duty. It teaches us, no matter how many obstacles block our way; we still have to go ahead.

No steam or gas drives anything until, it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light & power until it is tunneled. Similarly, No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated, disciplined. All the trees are hold strongly by the roots, that is why they can grow vertically. If you see carefully, you’ll find discipline everywhere in nature. Imagine what will happen, if the nature rejects to accept the discipline!
There’ll be chaos everywhere. Everything will be unpredictable. It will ruin the life on earth. We’ll not be able to plan & we will not be able to make any progress.

Similarly, our life needs discipline for a good, planned future. Self-discipline is the key to personal greatness. It is the magic quality that makes everything else possible. With self-discipline, an average person can rise far and as fast as his talents and intelligence can take him. But without self-discipline a person with every advantage of background, education & opportunity will seldom rise above the mediocrity. How high will we rise, depends upon the inner strength & discipline. The self respect is also a fruit of self-discipline. The sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself.

To have disciplined life, self-denial is very important in our personal life. Most of the times, we can’t control ourselves. We break our own rules, our own principles & morals. We never punish ourselves for that. We excuse ourselves by giving stupid justifications. This has to be avoided. Rules are rules; they must be followed with grace & without any excuse. A person with discipline is in short, ‘character in action.’

I remained stunned after I found out the role of discipline in life. Before this,
The discipline was something related with school. And it was never a reward giving thing. Instead of reward, school teachers always punished me for the lack of discipline. So, discipline was an unpleasant stimulus; but not now… Now, I’ve realized its value & I’m sure, if you think carefully about this, you’ll also know the value of discipline :-)
