The Silent Majority

What is the strongest argument of atheists? I think, it is the existence of bad things in this world. It puts a lot of questions around the concept of idealism & God. And so they come to a firm conclusion, that God does not exist.
But, I don’t want to come to a conclusion like them; because there are a few questions which are more important than drawing the conclusions.

So, the next question that comes to my mind is, why do the bad things exist?
A simple explanation will be – Bad things exist because good things fail to create their impression or good things ignore bad things as they consider them unworthy.
Isn’t that true? If good things had taken the charge, the bad things would’ve been powerless.

So, does it mean that good things were outnumbered? No, certainly not.
Today also, the number of good things is significantly more than bad ones. It is just that the bad things are organized & the good things are scattered. I saw an apt quote which can support this statement - ‘Friends may come & go, but enemies accumulate.’

I have noticed a tendency; it exists primarily in the Indian society. And it is in our administration too. We believe in ‘truth alone triumphs’ so much that we seem to forget, sometimes it may not triumph. We have a strange belief that bad things will get eliminated from the society automatically.

We do not support the bad things either, but we are too lazy to try to remove them with determination. We ignore the bad things because of the faith in good.
We ignore them because we don’t have courage and will to interfere. And this is where, it becomes easy to defeat us. The carelessness does the ultimate damage.

We support anti-corruption movements by sitting in front of television set. We condemn terrorism by sitting in front of television set; we celebrate the Independence Day by sitting in front of television set. And we know that this carelessness might lead us to dependence once again. But we are too busy with our lives.

This huge group of people without identification, without opinion is the ‘silent majority’ of India. Whether it is a boon with the happiness that comes from ignorance or is it a curse with the lack of proactivity is a question which should be analyzed at individual level.
But I’m waiting for the day, when this Silent majority will turn the fortunes of India with sheer determination & I think, that day is not far away.

  1. nice article aashay. just want to add this-
more than 'existance of bad things' it's about rationality. have you read 'why i am an atheist?' by bhagat singh? its a booklet published by lokvamgmay grih. if you havn't gone through it, plz read it. you may find it interesting.

  2. Sure,
Rationality is also a reason. But the thing is that almost all the atheist sites that I have visited, put it as, if poverty, crimes & impurities exist, then where are the good things & the god?...
Which comes down to rationality. Thank you for the comment :)
